Abstract : This note is one of a series concerned with the NCEL research effort in the area of airfield pavements. Specifically, this note is concerned with the factors which influence the modulus of deformation (elasticity) of paving materials. It is shown that this parameter is influenced by the weight of the overlying bases in a pavement system. It is also demonstrated that this parameter increases with increasing depth of base and that bases incorporated in a multi-layered system develop higher moduli than those which are part of a two-layered system.
