Abstract : Results of measurements of the properties of a pulsed neutron source are presented. The source consists of a slightly sub-prompt-critical fast reactor of uranium metal (93% U-235) shpere struck by a pulsed 29 MeV electron beam from a linear accelerator. The peak neutron intensity and pulse width depend upon both the LINAC pulse properties and the assembly multiplication. Peak powers of about 300 Mw were attained for a pulse width at half maximum of about 5 micron/ sec. Measurements were made of neutron yield, pulse shape, and mechanical expansion of the reactor.
