Abstract : Nine normal subjects were tested for their estimations of vertical and body axis when tilted to the side in a tilting chair and when exposed to a charge in direction and magnitude of resultant force on a human centrifuge. It was found that the estimation of vertical lay close to the true vertical on the tilt chair and close to the angle of resultant force on the centrifuge. The constant error in both cases lay toward the subject's body axis, consistently but not significantly, and was very slightly greater under increased resultant force on the centrifuge. The estimation of body axis had considerable deviation in each subject and also varied considerably from subject to subject. (Author)
