Abstract : A structure of PdCl2 has been established which is often given as an example of a linear, infinite-chain, inorganic molecule. Evidence is presented which indicates that this structure is of a high temperature polymorph which can exist metastably at room temperature for many months, and that a third modification PdCl2 exists at higher temperatures still. Structural details of the latter, as well as of the form thermodynamically stable at room temperature, are as yet not known. (Author)
