Abstract : This research and development program is directed toward the improvement of aluminum-iron base alloys for aircraft application. The three phases to be investigated are: (1) improving the ductility of the higher aluminum alloys (14 to 17% Al) through improved melting, alloying, and heat treatment; (2) studying the effects of the order-disorder transformations upon ductility; (3) developing alloys of lower aluminum contents with their associated ductility, while maintaining good stress-rupture strength.
