Abstract : Presented in this report are analyses and results of a problem of radiant energy exchange between two plane circular, parallel plates having a common central normal and existing in a totally absorptive, zero degree Kelvin environment. Equations are given to show the relation between the radiant energy flux and the radial surface distance from the center of the disk. Cases of the net heat exchange between one disk of finite radius and the other of varying radial position are determined for the different emissivities, temperatures, and spacing ratios of the two plates as functions of the ratio of radial surface distance outward to total radius of the disk. Graphs of the dimensionless energy flux versus the dimensionless ratio of radial surface distance outward to total radius of the disk, and the net heat exchange between the two parallel disks as a function of the position on one plate are presented for several values of emissivity and ratios of absolute temperatures with the spacing ratio as a parameter.
