Abstract : The possibilities of extensive alloying to improve the cast and rolled Be sheet properties are limited (>45 ksi, 0.1 Y. S. is desired), but there is an appreciable solid solubility of Cu in Be. Therefore, the fabrication characteristics and mechanical properties of the 0.5 - 5.0 wt % Cu-Be alloy sheet were investigated. It was found impossible to fabricate the 5% Cu material using established techniques for unalloyed metal. The more dilute 0.5 and 2.5 wt % Cu alloys showed significant improvement over the room temperature mechanical properties of unalloyed metal. (Author)
