Abstract : The rate of dissociation of fluorine in argon behind incident shock waves has been studied, from 900 to 1800 K. An ultraviolet absorption technique was utilized. Three mixtures of approximately 3, 6, and 15 mole-% F2 were used. Calculation of a rate of recombination based on this work shows a greater temperature dependence than anticipated from similar reactions. Due to the peculiar behavior of the extinction coefficient at fluorine concentration greater than 0.01 moles/liter and at temperatures over 1300 K, the reaction should be studied further. (Author)
