Abstract : Design activity was continued to develop a pad-driven centrifugal pump suitable for use in a liquid metal power transmission system using NaK-77 as the hydraulic fluid media. The design objectives are to achieve a 4,000 PSI, 30 GPM, 45,000 RPM centrifugal pump concept to operate att temperatures up to 1200 F. with a life expectancy of 1000 hours and an efficiency greater than 65%. Shaft bearings are lubricated with the fluid media. An impeller and diffuser system was studied and optimized utilizing computer techniques. Thrust and journal bearings were designed and elevated temperature performance predicted. Different bearing types were theoretically evaluated. Design layouts were completed and detailing started.
