Abstract : The objective of this study is to synthesize a cathodoluminescent phosphor with increased uv emission efficiency in the spectral region between 350 and 400 nanometers. Results of experimental work are presented on the cathodoluminescent properties of Zn2SiO4:Ti. BaFxSi2O5:Pb, (Sr(0.3)Ba(0.7)O)x(ZnO)y(SiO2)z:Pb, CaMgSi2O6:Ce, Ca2MgSi2O7:Ce, YVO4:Ce, and Y2O3:Ce. Evaluation of the phosphor materials were based on performance under conditions of high beam power in a demountable CRT and on ability to write on photochromic films. The densities achieved on photochromic film of 0.66 and 0.42 for sprayed P-16 (CaMgSi2O6:Ce, Li fired at 1250 C in N2 steam) and BaFxSi2O5:Pb (fired at 1050 C in air) were superior to the 0.31 density for conventional P-16 powder.
