Abstract : Electron-beam-barrier screens including a layer of material opaque to cathode ray but transparent to UV and visible radiations show the most promise at present. Glass frits produced a smooth surface nearly free of pinholes. Formulation and method of deposition of the frit on glass plates is described. Detail of the fabrication of 3-inch and 12-inch tubes employing the frit barrier are given. An alternate method of introducing an electron barrier was tried in 12-SP tubes. This consists of deposition of SiO followed by oxidation to SiO2. The color of stationary and fixed traces and the degree of electron penetration obtained at various anode voltages on the finished tube are tabulated. (Author)
