Abstract : Statistical samples of propagation characteristics and impulse noise at 400 mc and 800 mc were taken in an area in Germany. The propagation data was recorded in approximately 5 mi increments along six different routes. At each frequency and nominal distance, tests included combinations of mobile/fixed receiver with mobile receiver speeds of 0 to 40 mph in 5 mph increments. In addition, high (32 feet) antenna height gain effects were measured at selected instances as were combinations of mobile and fixed transmitter and receiver. The test data was reduced to provide characteristic curves on propagation loss vs distance, fade depth vs vehicle speed and fade rate vs vehicle speed at each frequency. The propagation loss data was correlated with frequency, route, distance, terrain type, mobile/fixed combinations and high/low antenna heights in terms of mean, standard deviation and percentile exceedances. Fade rate and depth data vs speed was correlated with test routes and percentile exceedances (for fade depths). (Author)
