Abstract : The very fast thermal decomposition kinetics of solid fluorine oxidizers are being studied with the objective of correlating such kinetic data with sensitivity and molecular structure. The time and temperature regimes of a detonation process are being simulated isothermally by heating a platinum ribbon, upon which the sample is thinly coated, with a capacitor discharge. Location of the ribbon adjacent to the electron beam of a Time-of-Flight mass spectrometer permits analyses of gaseous decomposition products to be made every 50 microseconds. Efforts during this first quarter of the program have been devoted to instrumental modifications and technique refinements. (Author)
