Abstract : The photon transport program using the Monte Carlo technique was developed to study the time-dependent transport of radiation through an arbitrary geometrical configuration constructed of a variety of materials. It has special features for calculating energy deposition as a function of time in surfaces exposed to radiation and for calculating energy deposition, photon flux, electron flux or tissue equivalent detector responses at selected field points. The program can consider photon energies from close to zero to 100 Mev and, therefore, covers both the X-ray and gamma ray energy ranges of interest in most transport problems. The interactions considered in the calculation include coherent and incoherent scattering, photoelectric effect, and pair production. Fluorescence and annihilation radiation can also be included at the user's option. The program was written in FORTRAN IV. Volume I contains a description of the basic data and the theory and includes a user's manual. (Author)
