Abstract : An adhesive primer study, was completed. The study indicated several problem areas in adhesive bond fabrication. Research involving the AF-R-151 system was concerned with solution- and hot-melt-coated laminating studies and a hot-melt-coated tape adhesive study. A recommended fabrication procedure for the preparation of hot-melt-coated prepreg laminates, having consistently superior physical and mechanical properties was developed. In the hot-melt-coated tape adhesive study, the inclusion of amorphous boron in adhesive formulations had beneficial effects on initial and aged bond strengths. Several studies, involving bulk nonreinforced compression moldings, were carried out. These included the determination of the initial (room temperature) and aged (up to 1500 hours at 600 F) tensile strength, isothermal aging behavior, short beam shear tests, dielectric strength and the heat deflection properties.
