Abstract : This report covers a portion of the work accomplished under a program of research on analytical studies and experimental verification of the vibration and flutter characteristics of inflatable structures. Earlier work on the static and vibration behavior of an inflated AIRMAT section is specialized for the case of a flat plate. Applications are made, to an edge-loaded rectangular wing and to the calculation of the influence coefficients for a delta wing. The mode shapes and frequencies of a rectangular wing are also claculated. Correlation with experiments is acceptable in some cases and poor in others. Additional analytical and experimental work can profitably be performed on these types of structures. The computer programs should be modified to include the edge-stiffening effects, while the usefulness of the frequency and mode-shape program can be measurably increased by some relatively simple modifications.
