Abstract : Three no-gimbal mechanization schemes and the errors peculiar to gimballess inertial systems have been flight tested on an IBM 7094 computer. The techniques programmed for comparison are a modified Euler, a velocity correction, and a second order algorithm. These techniques, used in previous no-gimbal investigations, all generate the direction cosine transformation matrix. Truncation, noncommutativity, and round off errors are investigated. The effect of these errors and the mechanization schemes as a function of iteration rates are studied. Actual flight test data previously recorded on magnetic tape is used. The IBM 7094 is programmed to accept the sensor information along with the various mechanization schemes and computer word lengths, which allows the systems to be tested and compared under realistic flight conditions.
