Abstract : This volume describes the first phase of a three-phase study pertaining to a laser optical test system concept applicable to the testing of large-scale parabolic solar collectors. The results of analyses of test system accuracy are presented, as well as the type of data generated for evaluating the geometrical deviations of a multi-petal, unfurlable, 52-ft-diameter, 60-deg-rim-angle solar reflector. Two approaches to geometrical optical testing are discussed; one method utilizes semi-quantitative test data generated directly by the test system; the other method utilizes the result of digital computer operations on point-by-point quantitative test data. The test system concept is completely general and can operate with smaller diameters and rim angles. (Author)
