Abstract : The basic approaches to the analysis of image-plane spatial filtering are discussed. A review of Fourier transforms and transfer function analysis is given; expressions for the time-dependent output of several reticle devices are calculated; background measurements intended for use with transfer-function spatial filter analysis are reviewed; and two approaches to frequency-domain optimization of spatial filters are discussed.
