Abstract : The objectives of the contract are the investigation and construction of an o-type Carcinotron with a center of 600 kmc. The main program for the period covered by this report as defined previously was (1) to continue the gun study including magnetic shield studies, electrolytic tank measurements and gun hot tests; and (2) to begin the study of the tube overall assembly with improvements of coupling window and line protection systems. Refinements in machining methods were to be studied as well as control and centering methods. The results obtained during this period are: (1) achievement of a new tube assembly; (2) achievement of the new gun construction reported in the preceding report; (3) study of the trajectories of the CO.C5 gun (beam diameter: 0.07 mm) and two hot test results; and (4) a study by microphotography of the modification of copper crystalline structure, by thermal processing.
