Abstract : Radiation characteristics of the MISTRAM transponder antenna can be a major source of the system tracking errors. Studies of various missile, aircraft calibration, and antenna evaluation tests have demonstrated the desirability of broad beamwidth strongly polarized antennas. A dipole about one/half wavelength in length, would satisfy these requirements. However, a waveguide fed slot closely approximates the desired pattern and presents fewer aerodynamic problems than a dipole. Such an antenna will fulfill MISTRAM tracking requirements for most test programs at the AFTER and is recommended for future programs using MISTRAM. (Author)
