Abstract : Research with ferrites has shown that these materials possess a number of nonreciprocal properties when used in the microwave frequency range. This unusual behavior has led to an increased usage of ferrites in microwave devices. Extensive experiments conducted at the National Bureau of Standards, Boulder, Colorado, verified the theory and feasibility of obtaining precision linear phase shift measurements using ferrites as the control media inside X-Band waveguide. Results of the experiments showed that the ferrites used for phase shift control at X-Band should have the following properties: High mu, low loss tangents, high Curie Temperature, low saturation fields, and high resistivity.
