Abstract : The Coast Guard Recruiting program has for a number of years failed to meet its quota of regular enlisted personnel. Additional funds and men have not solved the problem. A study of recruiters in the 11th, 12th, and 13th Coast Guard Districts was conducted to ascertain if a device could be developed for selecting recruiters. The Lee-Thorpe Occupational Interest Inventory and the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule were used in the study. Neither test was found suitable for use under existing conditions although several scales of the Edwards test show promise. The study indicated that these and other tests can aid in improving use of the present selection criteria.
