Abstract : The stability of the Blasius boundary layer is examined when the viscous stresses lag behind the rate of strain tensor. The effect is destabilizing. The same effect is found for a simplified model of a turbulent boundary layer when the eddy-viscosity is used instead of the molecular viscosity. (Author)
