Abstract : The purpose of the work undertaken by this high power window study is to pursue theoretically and experimentally a course which will lead to the development and fabrication of a waveguide window capable of transmitting one megawatt of continuous-wave (CW) power. The window should have a 10% bandwidth centered about 8.0 kMc. The program is divided into three basic phases. These are the development of a resonant ring capable of generating one megawatt of CW power; the investigation of the power handling capability of various type windows; and finally, a determination of the most reliable techniques to be used in the fabrication of windows. The first quarter of work was almost exclusively devoted to the ring resonator development. Various waveguide parts were electroformed. Several of the difficulties encountered in this process are described. The special flanges and gasket assemblies required were designed. Initial cold test design of several window configurations was initiated. (Author)
