Abstract : This program seeks methods to permit application of ferrites in an octave L-band CFA at several KW. The nature of the magnetic fields from all pertinent broadband delay lines is presented and rules for the proper interaction of these fields with distributed ferrite are derived. A typical CFA design is reviewed to determine quantitative objectives for ferrite performance at L-Band. Initial theoretical design of a composite ferrite-CFA delay line was made. The meander line, when designed for low dispersion, is unsuitable for ferrite incorporation near the backwall. The use of ferrite material in the sole, coupling to only the backward harmonic, is being explored in the meander line case. The case of the helix is more ideal with ferrite location permissible near the backwall. This report reviews experimental results with L-band helices and meander lines, the X-band split-folded waveguide, the plan of measurements with L-band lines, and research on ferrite materials. Results so far are considered promising, especially in light of the good experimental results with the helix, which is the most attractive line for CFA application.
