Abstract : Photoelastic methods using frozen stresses are very useful for experimentally determining stress distributions in bodies having complicated geometries for which no analytical solution is known. The method is applied to cylindrical pipe fittings having discontinuities and subjected to hydrostatic internal pressure loading. The equipment used, the method of model construct on and the calibration of the model material are described. Two models having different geometries are tested and the results are compared with theory and with each other.
