Abstract : A single axis Off-Line adaptive sampled data flight control system was built. It was installed flight-tested and demonstrated feasible in an F102A aircraft. The system is an outgrowth of the sampled-data adaptive system previously flight tested. The system design differs from the previously implemented adaptive system in that the signal flow is continuous in nature with the sampler in the gain computing loop rather than the forward loop. The Off-Line Adaptive Computer (OLAC) uses control loop information normally present in a basic system (surface position and airframe rate) to modify the loop gain of the control system. The principal objective of the OLAC approach is to develop a sampled data adaptive system in which the adaptive computations are performed outside of the control loop.
