Abstract : The eutectics in the Pt-C and Ir-C phase diagrams were studied in this investigation. Both systems are of a simple eutectic type with very limited solid solubility of carbon. The eutectic point of the Pt-C systems exists at 16.8 + or -1.0 at. (1.23 + or -0.09 wt.) %C and 1705 + or -13 C, and that of the Ir-C system at 29.0 + or -1.0 at. (2.49 + or -1.0 at. (2.49 + or -0.12 wt.) %C and 2150 + or -22 C. (Author)
