Abstract : The noise characteristics of a 'Silent' valve were investigated. On the basis of overside noise, the subject valve was significantly quieter than a standard marine service globe valve of comparable size. As a passive noise transmission element, the silent valve produced significant broad-band attenuation in the frequency range above 300 cps.
