Abstract : The viscoelastic properties of dilute aqueous solutions of polyethylene oxide were studied using a modified simple elastometer. The dynamic viscosity and dynamic rigidity are calculated from the measurements in the frequency range from 1 to 11 Hertz for concentrations of 0.25%, 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% of a polymer having a molecular weight of about 4 million. The results indicate that the solutions may be represented as a simple Maxwellian element in the frequency range considered. (Author)
