Abstract : Machinability data are defined specifically for the manufacture and processing of turbine engine components made of beryllium material. Block pressed and forged beryllium forgings (Be + 3.2% BeO), being acceptable to machining damage, were critically investigated for the degree of damage caused by conventional and non-conventional machining practices. Turning and milling operations induced surface damage to excessive to be classified as finishing operations; grinding and electro-chemical machining experiments produced surfaces qualifiable for the manufacture of turbine engine components. Complete documentation of experiments are included along with recommendations and conclusions. (Author)
