Abstract : As military equipment has increased in technical complexity there has been increasing realization that, since maintenance is accomplished by human beings, the maintenance problem is of concern to human resources, as well as to engineering personnel. Of basic importance is the fact that maintenance in the field is carried out in large part by airmen with little if any academic training above high school. There are important requirements, (1) for simplifying the task of maintenance, and (2) for organizing maintenance training so that qualified personnel are available as soon as possible after production models of equipment are introduced into field use.
