Abstract : A setter and timer were developed for use in a very long delay fuze for use in air-delivered mines and bombs. Tests and evaluations established a high confidence in the ability of both the setter and timer to operate reliably after a 2- to 4- millisecond, 20,000-g impact shock. Preliminary tests were conducted with the setter encased in an aluminum housing to evaluate the design for local stress points; none were observed. Preliminary tests were also conducted with the setter encased in a cast epoxy housing to verify survivability; the design survived a 1- millisecond, 8,000-g shock, which is equivalent to the effects of applying a 20,000-g shock to a setter encased in an injection molded, glass-filled nylon housing (final design configuration). The setter was designed for hand or screwdriver adjustment of the delay timer when the package is installed in the bomb fuze well.
