Abstract : This report describes the design, construction and operation of a low power calibrated laser source. The equipment consists of a Korad Nd doped YAG Laser Q switched with a Pockels cell. It operates in single shot or 10 pps modes. Output energy is approximately 10 millijoules with peak powers of 1 megawatt. The laser is fired into a calibrated attenuator furnishing a minimum of approximately 25 db attenuation continuously variable to a maximum of over 150 db. After attenuation the beam is smoothed, expanded to approximately 3 inches in diameter and collimated. Attenuation is accomplished by means of high reflectivity beamsplitters and a calcite prism polarization analyzer. The resultant laser source permits laboratory simulation of military laser systems.
