Abstract : This report describes an engineering-evaluation equipment in which a state-of-the-art instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM) receiver and a unique real-time signal processor are integrally combined. The signal processor utilizes voltage-level filters as a simple device to operate directly on the IFM receiver output to separate signals by radio frequency; it also provides a capability for automatic video pulse-train separation and PRF measurement. Mechanisms for the simultaneous monitoring of signals of interest, rapid acquisition, and the analysis of new signals and rejection of unwanted ones have been implemented. Automaticity has been used where appropriate to provide a basis for evaluating the feasibility and desirability of extending automation in future receivers of this type. The over-all receiver exhibits good sensitivity, excellent frequency-sorting resolution, a very large continuous dynamic range, and a demonstrated capability for intercept and analysis of many exotic-type radar signals.
