Abstract : Fourteen boxes (4'x8'x3' inside measurement) were filled with composition wallboard and placed on an arc of 180 deg whose radius was 19.75 ft. Three additional recovery boxes were faced with .020 dural, one being placed adjacent to box number one, the other two were placed on a tangent to the arc and positioned so as to be in the path of the main fragment spray. Two high speed cameras (using a high frequency standard, an electronic timing device .001 second--and taking pictures at approximately 8000 frames per second) photographed the burst of the shell and of the fragments striking the dural flash targets. All shells were suspended horizontal with their center of gravity at the middle of the test area and with the nose of the shell pointing to the edge of box number one. The shells were detonated by means of a Detonator, Electric, M36 and Detonator M18, initiated by means of a 110 volt firing line.
