Abstract : Water-glycol lubricants have been satisfactorily used by industry and the governmental agencies during the past twenty years in many hydraulic system applications. It was recently noted that the residual material remaining after the evaporation of the water in formulas specified under Military Specification H-22072 are susceptible to ignition. The main objective, therefore, was to impart fire resistance in both a finished lubricant and the non-aqueous residue. Targets included a flash point of greater than 450 F, a fire point of greater than 450 F and an autogenous ignition temperature of at least 900 F. (Author)
