Abstract : The results of a study to determine engineering methods for finding laminar convective heat transfer on sharp and blunt cones at angle of attack are presented. Experimental data at Mach numbers up to 17 and angles of attack up to 30 degrees are used to find a correlating parameter. The correlation is presented as a ratio of heat flux at angle of attack to heat flux at zero angle of attack as a function of a parameter based on local flow properties and body geometry. Curves are included that permit quantities used in the correlation to be easily determined. Also, theoretical methods for obtaining laminar convective heat transfer at angle of attack are reviewed and compared with experimental data. (Author)
