Abstract : Characteristic layer-like field inhomogeniities in homogeneous photoconductors which move from cathode to anode must occur when the carrier density n decreases with increasing field F as n approx. F(-alpha) if alpha > 1 - beta, with carrier mobility micron approx. F(-beta). The decrease in n can be caused by field quenching. The critical voltage for initiation of these inhomogeneities decreases with optical excitation and increases with optical quenching in agreement with theory and experiment. (Author)
