Abstract : Preliminary machine computations of electron distributions about a thermionically emitting particle are presented. Further work on ion sampling from chemical plasmas has shown that the process involves competition between hydrodynamic flow and the local electric fields at a sampling aperture. Further results are presented for flames and for nitrogen afterglows. (Author)
