Abstract : An experimental investigation was made of stability and transition in Couette flow. The nature of the changes in flow structure which occur in the various boundaries are discussed. Research revealed two processes of transition from laminar to turbulent flow: catastrophic transition and transition by spectral evolution. An apparatus constructed specifically for this research is described.
