Abstract : An analytical study of the normal and axial force coefficients of wedge-shaped airfoils in supersonic viscous flow is presented. It is based on the inviscid oblique shock relations to determine the flow conditions after the oblique shocks in the vicinity of the wedge. This condition is used as the local free stream condition which is applied to the available correlation of compressible boundary layer theory on a flat plate at zero angle of attack. Furthermore, the boundary layer displacement thickness is used as the effective body in the inviscid supersonic small perturbation theory to predict local surface pressure. Force coefficients are referred to the free stream dynamic pressure and the area of the wedge base. Some numerical calculations were carried out in order to compare the results with earlier theoretical and experimental data. (Author)
