Abstract : A comparison of pressure induced shifts in infrared emission and in absorption spectra revealed no differences between the two in a given system. It was found that when HC1 is perturbed with DC1 or HF (and when HCN is perturbed with HC1), every other line in a vibration-rotation band is shifted to a higher frequency and the intervening lines are shifted to lower frequency. These shift oscillations are probably due to nearresonant dipole interactions between the pairs. Efforts were begun to investigate weak molecular interactions by imbedding the absorbing molecule in a solid noble gas matrix at liquid He temperatures.
