Abstract : An experiment is reported in which a group of seven subjects were required to select one from among eleven objects and to dispose of it among themselves. Their solution is compared with others possible, such as those suggested by game-theoretic considerations, and it is considered that the group failed by a substantial margin to find an optimal selection and disposition. Deficiencies of majority voting, as a decision process, are noted and psychological factors enter into the group process in an important fashion. (Author)
