Abstract : During the quarter, some minor questions in statistical meteorology were explored. One of these concerns the geometry of the iso-correlation curves of a meteorological field. Rather little is known about this, since, on the one hand, the non-isotropy of the random process involved makes a theoretical discussion difficult and, on the other hand, paucity of empirical data limit qualitative insight into the properties of the correlation field. Stimulated by some Russian work (Yudin and Vulis, Izv. Geophys. Ser., No. 1, 1964, pp. 124-135), renewal attention is being given to the statistical properties of the random errors occuring in finite-difference approximations of partial differential equations. In particular, the mean values and spectral densities of various such approximations are being studied. (Author)
