Abstract : The purpose of this program is to determine the presence and magnitude of residual stresses in thick wall fiberglas structures, and their effect on material properties; such that, the information will be applicable to full size deep submergence structures, and detrimental effects may be minimized or eliminated. Theoretical investigations, analysis methods, fabrication, and test results to date, are preesented and related to each other in this report. Test results thus far have been restricted to hoop wound rings, from which residual circumferential stresses have been recorded as high as 19,000 psi. (Author)
