Abstract : Initial experiments with one to five grams of a palladiumon-alumina catalyst for hydrogen-oxygen recombination in sealed cells was successful in maintaining low gas pressures for an 0.5 ampere overcharge condition for up to eight hours. Tin and lead impurities in the negative plate up to 5% were tested for their effects on cycle life. There was no observable effect, either beneficial or deleterious. Effects of silver impurities are uncertain. Cells containing negative plates formulated with broad ranges of composition of both polyethyleneoxide and polyvinyl alcohol were cycle-life tested. The results indicate that 2% polyvinyl alcohol gives best life and voltage performance. Other experimental work under way is described. (Author)
