Abstract : In an effort to bridge the gap between theory and practice, the reentry problem area is chosen to apply advanced control techniques. This problem area affords many separate areas where theory could be applied. This volume is separated into two parts: Part 1 describes digital computer controlled adaptive processes which can be employed for the flight path control problem; i.e., control of a vehicle about a predetermined trajectory (optimal or otherwise). In Part 2 optimal reentry trajectories are determined. (Author)
