Abstract : In the flame of a hydrogen bearing substance and air or oxygen, the predominant ion has been demonstrated by others using mass spectrographic methods to be H3O+, although there are other ions such as H5O2+, CHO+, OH+. The quasi-equilibrium concentration of H3O+ was therfore determined on a statistical mechanical basis using reactants as the starting point of calculation. The recruitment factor was obtained as the ratio of the observed positive ion concentration to the equilibrium concentration of H3O+.
